Practicing Portraits
In class before spring break, we all took turns photographing each other. We manipulated the light in the room to create different shadows and highlights, and it really helped to better understand the lighting elements we were working with.
This first photo was fun to work with because of the really drastic shadows. I had a bit of trouble with the color balance but I evened out the shadows on his cheeks and pushed up the contrast.
I put this shot into black&white because it seemed to fit Gavin's expression more. I lost some of the distinction between his shirt and hair but I think it works for this photo and helps keep the focus on his face.
